Self-preservation is something that has been in us since the dawn of time, it is a coping mechanism used to protect ourselves emotionally and physically. Some people used it against threats of death and others use it against threats of emotional hurt and pain.
It tends to be used when we've been caught off guard many times and then we learn to adapt to it to prevent it from happening again.
Self-preservation is important as it is a form of self care, making ourselves ready to adapt to negative environment or removing negativity from our lives completely.
