Ever since I was a young girl, all of my happiest memories were all always related to music in some shape or form. It has the magic of changing dark moments for the better and making your troubles fade away to the back of your mind, even just for a second. The silly dances, lip syncing and air drums are all part and parcel of a truly immersed musical experience. Music has no boundaries, restrictions or limits when it comes to people, music is for all and for all to share in it.
It is said, according to scientific research, that music can relieve anxiety by lowering the blood pressure. It can also lower pain thresholds as well as improve your sleep, moods and memory. I can vouch for this, music has definitely been a life-saver for me, I couldn't do without it and when I'm not listening to music, I'm humming and singing! What music makes you feel relaxed or changes your moods? Do you use music to treat anxiety?
Music therapy is now used in hospitals, for patients who suffer from emotional, mental and physical difficulties. Music therapy is used to release their frustrations through listening, dancing and singing, it also encourages better communication between professionals and patients by releasing endorphins (happy chemical in the body) which creates a positive, interactive environment and efficiency in group interaction. It is truly amazing that we now use music as a treatment!
But not surprising either, music has held it's importance in society since records began. Music has been the reason for so many marriages, births and relationships, the one song that a couple shares as theirs and when it comes on, they look to each other in a knowing way, smiling without having to say anything at all. Maybe that's why music is so good, it's audible version of love, words that seems to pull on heartstrings and make you look at the world differently again.
Music has been the reason for so many happy moments as well as sad moments, it changes our moods because the words find a way of burying into our soul and changing our perception, each song is another person's positive or introspective message. We all find comfort in those words because it means we are not alone in this world. May we always have music in this world because I honestly think if we didn't, it would be a lonely, quiet and dark place.
